History of the Taurus Model 856
The Taurus Model 856 is a six-shot, small-frame service revolver in a regular arrangement, available in a number of different styles. The gun has a very compact size for concealed carry purposes and supports .38 special cartridges.
The series launched in 2003, but is no longer produced by Taurus International.
As supplied, the 856 has a rubber grip for a secure grip. Its overall length reaches 6.5 inches, while the barrel assembly is only 2 inches long. The trigger is double-action (DA)/single-action (SA) operation and the safety system is a Taurus safety system (transfer lever). All other aspects of the revolver are basic - the six-round rotary cylinder is nested within the central mass of the frame, the hammer is exposed at the rear of the frame, and the trigger assembly is flared below the frame.
The aiming device runs along the top of the gun.
