Taurus PT92 History

The Taurus PT92 is essentially a classic Italian semi-automatic Beretta Model 92 (M92) built in Sao Paulo, Brazil using the original Beretta M92 machine. After the Brazilian military accepted the M92 as its standard weapon, Beretta moved to the Brazilian capital, Sao Paulo, where a manufacturing plant was established to manufacture the weapon. In 1980, after the partnership ended, the facility was sold to gun manufacturer Taurus, which began producing guns under its own brand due to the expiration of the relevant patents. In 1983, the Taurus "PT92" was introduced and eventually became the standard weapon of the Brazilian Army (as "M975") and its national police force.

Other operators of this reliable weapon are Argentina (police), Dominican Republic, Israel (police), Libya, Indonesia, Malaysia, Paraguay and Peru (army and special forces).

In form and function, the PT92 is identical to the Beretta M92 - it even has a cutout to expose the sliding part of the barrel, a hallmark of the M92 series. The main chamber is a 9x19mm Parabellum pistol, fed from a 17-round detachable magazine in the base of the grip.

All operating elements are clearly arranged along the slideway for easy operation by the operator. Total weight is 960g, length is 216mm, barrel assembly length is 127mm.

In addition to the standard 9x19mm rifled, there are 7.65mm (0.32 auto) and .40 Smith & Wesson to meet market demand. 7.65mm for PT57 and .40 S&W forms for PT100 and PT101. There are various 9mm Parabellum markers, from PT92 and PT92AF to PT917C and PT917CS.

During the production run of the PT92, several changes were made to the base design, including the adoption of accessory rails, changes to the trigger guard, and modifications to the magazine.
