History

Introduced in 2005, the WKW Wilk ("Wolf") is the most advanced large-caliber sniper rifle made in Poland. It uses a manually operated bolt action system to pull. Spring loaded seven-round detachable magazine holds 50 rounds of BMG ammo. It is arranged in a bull puppy configuration, keeping the action and feed behind the pistol grip and trigger assembly while retaining the full length rifled barrel assembly.

A large multi-slotted muzzle brake is mounted on the barrel, and the rear shoulder rest has a cheek rest and shoulder pads. An adjustable bipod assembly supports the front weight of the weapon, while a monopod is used for the rear (this support is also adjustable).

The design of this weapon is attributed to Zaklady Mechaniczne Tarnow.

This rifle is also called "Tor" by the Polish Army - it stands for "Wielkokalibrowy Karabin Wyborowy", which means "large-caliber sniper rifle".

The total system weight is 16 kg and the total length is 1,350 mm. The barrel is 880mm long with grooves along its length. The rifle is equipped with a Schmidt and Bender X3-12 P/MII telescopic sight for accuracy at long range. It mounts in the usual way using a Picatinny typical accessory rail system above the receiver.

The other rail section is located at the edge of the front end.

Performance claims include a muzzle velocity of 2,900 feet per second and an effective range of up to 3,000 meters.

To date (2018) about 150 weapons have been manufactured and the Polish army has received about 80. Other operators include Saudi Arabia and Vietnam, which bought 15 and 50, respectively.
