Sanna 77 History

Czechoslovakia vz. The 25 submachine gun was in turn based on the Israeli UZI submachine gun and formed the basis of the Rhodesian/South African "Sanna 77". The gun originally originated in Rhodesia in the 1970s, when mass production moved to South Africa, where it was tested by the South African military, which they believed was not reliable enough to continue to be used.

Production continued from 1977 to 1980, with only a limited number of them produced before production was discontinued.

Production is taken over by Dan Pienaar Enterprise Ltd in Johannesburg.

The Sanna 77 weighs 2.8kg, has an overall length of 650mm (450mm with the stock folded) and a barrel length of 290mm. The stock is foldable, further enhancing the inherent portability of the weapon. The magazine holds 40 rounds of 9x19mm Parabellum cartridges and is placed on the bottom of the grip like the UZI.

The receiver has a cylindrical appearance and above it is mounted iron sights (front and rear). The barrel protruded a short distance from the receiver housing. The trigger group is traditionally placed in front of the pistol grip.

Compared to Czech vz. The 25 Sanna 77's automatic fire mode was removed, limiting the weapon to a more controllable single-shot capability. However, this reduces the tactical value of what was intended to be a submachine gun, essentially making the Sanna 77 more of a semi-automatic action fired oversized pistol.

This quality is certainly not suitable for this weapon, and in addition to failing as a military weapon, the Sanna 77 cannot be sold to civilian industrial groups (such as farmers) or police departments.

The doomed weapon was completed in the early 1980s.
