NORINCO Type 54 (TT-33) History

The Type 54 is an improved version of the Type 51 (Chinese replica of the TT-33) produced after the Korean War. First introduced in 1951, the Type 51 was built at the Shenyang 66 factory using Soviet and Chinese parts. In 1954, after approximately 250,000 pistols were produced, the name was changed to the Type 54, and the pistol was made entirely from local components.

Pistols of this type typically have a 7.62?25mm caliber, although some variants have been produced in the 9?19mm Parabellum.

While the QSZ-92 (Type 92) complements the Type 54 in the military, the weapon is still in service today with some Chinese armed forces (such as the Armed Police Force and some units of the People's Liberation Army).

Type 54 sung ?n K-54 (Type 54 from China, designated Vietnamese type translated as Type 54) pistol used during the Vietnam War, where K stands for Ki?u). Large numbers of Type 54 pistols were smuggled into Japan, often for yakuza use.
