History of the Sphinx S3000

The Sphinx pistol is manufactured in Switzerland by the company Sphinx Systems Ltd. The Sphinx 3000 pistol is a direct descendant of the famous Sphinx AT 2000 pistol. Introduced in 2003, the Sphinx 3000 pistol is available in different versions and calibers for sports (IPSC and IDPA), self-defense and security/police services. The Sphinx 3000 pistol features extremely high machining quality and reliability, top-notch accuracy and reliability, and a virtually indestructible all-steel design. These pistols are by no means cheap, but the out-of-the-box quality offered is probably the best money can buy.

Additional models of this pistol are available for sport shooters, including models specifically for various IPSC and IDPA ratings. These models can be factory fitted with extended magazines, red dot sight mounts, sport single action triggers and other options.

According to Sphinx company sources, a 45ACP version of the .Sphinx 3000 is currently in development (as of March 2004).

The Sphinx 3000 is a short recoil pistol with a locked breech. The barrel runs on a Browning cam system and is locked to a large sliding ejection port by a single lug. The frame and brackets are made of steel for maximum rigidity. The frame is fully milled from two pieces of steel and then permanently assembled.

The trigger guard is shaped so that it can be held comfortably with two hands. The frame of all Sphinx 3000 pistols has an integrated accessory rail under the barrel. The Sphinx 3000 pistol has a double-action trigger with an external hammer, but can (on request) be equipped with a single-action trigger system. Various models can be equipped with a standard safety device that can lock the hammer in the cocking or cocking position, or use a release-only lever.

Safety or unlocking levers are ambidextrous and provided on either side of the frame. Sliding stop bars are also mounted on both sides of the frame. The tactical model is similar in design but has a shortened slide and barrel and can be ordered with SA, DA or DAO triggers. Tactical models have fixed sights with white inserts; other models usually have adjustable sights.

In any case, the front sight and front sight are mounted on slide rails and can be easily replaced if necessary.
