History of the Embraer Phenom 100 (EMB-500)

The Embraer EMB-500 The Phenom 100 is a light business jet developed by the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. The program was announced in November 2005, the aircraft first flew on July 26, 2007, and was type-certified in December 2008 and delivered the same month. It was extended into the larger Embraer Phenom 300. The very light jet can carry four to seven passengers and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW600 turbofan engines in the stern.

It has a range of 1,178 nautical miles (2,182 km) with four passengers. By the end of 2019, 380 units had been delivered. The Phenom 100 had a fatal accident in December 2014.

In April 2005, Embraer's board of directors approved the development of ultralight and light jets. On Nov. 9, at the annual NBAA conference, the company announced that the ultralight jet would be called the Phenom 100 and showed off a scale model of the plane.

The aircraft made its maiden flight on July 26, 2007 in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil. On December 9, 2008, she received a Type Certificate from the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority. Phenom 100 is certified as EMB-500. The first aircraft was delivered on December 24, 2008.
