The Story of Embraer Legacy / Praetor (series)

Embraer produces the Legacy/Praetor series of mid-size twin-engine business jets. Equipped with state-of-the-art fly-by-wire (FbW) controls and high-end equipment, the aircraft will satisfy even the most demanding customers.

The series includes Legacy 450/500 (EMB-545/EMB-550) and Praetor 500/600 models, of which more than 100 have been built since entering service in October 2014.

This aircraft has low-mounted swept-wing main aircraft, each with winglets for improved fuel economy and additional control. The wings are located near the midship.

The flight deck is usually located above the nose, which has a highly sloping (and short) nose cone assembly that provides excellent visibility from the cockpit. Sitting side-by-side, the two crew members enjoy a state-of-the-art workspace with four full-color touchscreen monitors, a shared center console (with throttle controls) and side joysticks. The fuselage is dotted with rounded rectangular windows for passengers to watch.

The interior of the passenger area is as luxurious as the budget allows, complete with seats, benches and workbenches. The fins are in a "T-shaped" multi-hop fin arrangement, with the horizontal plane at the very top of a single vertical fin.

A conventional (fully retractable) tricycle landing gear is provided for ground operations.

All versions of this aircraft are powered by Honeywell's proven HTF7500E series turbofan engines. The engine was first operated by the company in 1999 and powers other types of jets such as the Gulfstream G280 and Bombardier Challenger 300/350 series jets.

The engines are mounted on the outer wings at the rear of the fuselage, as far away from the passenger cabin as possible to reduce operating noise.

The Legacy 450 model seats 7 to 9 passengers in great comfort with an overall length of 64.6 feet, a height of 21 feet and a wingspan of 63.2 feet. MTOW reaches 23,000 lbs.

Embraer launched plans to produce the Legacy/Praetor series in April 2008 - resulting in the first two entries in the series, the Legacy 450 and the larger Legacy 500 models. Subsequent Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 entries were realized at the end of 2018.

The Praetor 600 was certified in April 2019, followed by the Praetor 500 in August.
