The BlueBird Tech Chuyka 3.0 is a Ukrainian portable radio-frequency detector designed to identify and intercept analog video transmissions from FPV drones and other unmanned aircraft using compatible signal formats. The system provides audible and visual warnings and can display intercepted video to help an operator assess a detected drone.

Chuyka 3.0 was publicly reported in May 2025 as a Ukrainian-developed electronic intelligence device produced by BlueBird Drones. Reports based on information from the Brave1 defense technology cluster described a detection range of up to 4 km and automatic scanning of three principal frequency bands. Militarnyi reported that the detector could identify analog FPV video transmissions, display several detected sources and allow operators to view intercepted video.

By June 2025, Chuyka 3.0 was reported as being used on Ukrainian front lines. Defender Media described the device as a portable electronic reconnaissance system requiring no initial configuration and beginning its scanning process after power-on.

Development and field use

The 2025 configuration scanned three principal frequency ranges: 900–1680 MHz, 3060–3700 MHz and 4990–6000 MHz. Scanning across these bands was reported to take approximately 4–8 seconds. The device could display up to three detected signal sources and their frequencies simultaneously, while the operator could switch between channels to inspect intercepted video.

The detector was designed to provide warning before a stable video image was necessarily available. Audible and visual indicators alert the operator when a compatible signal is detected. The audible indication changes according to detected activity, while the visual indication remains available when sound is muted. The system automatically adapts to local radio-noise conditions to reduce false warnings.

2026 frequency upgrade

On 20 August 2026, BlueBird Tech announced an upgrade program for existing Chuyka 3.0 detectors. Instead of replacing the complete unit, eligible devices can be returned to the manufacturer for modification. The company installs an additional radio module, corresponding antenna and battery for a new 6–8.8 GHz frequency band. It also modifies the existing 3.3 GHz module and antenna. BlueBird Tech stated that the upgrade expands the detector from three scanning bands to four.

The upgrade also changes the frequency coverage of the existing 3.3 GHz band. Its previous 2870–4080 MHz range is expanded to 2860–4500 MHz. BlueBird Tech initially made the program available to version 1.3.8 devices purchased from April 2026 onward and stated that engineers were working to support additional Chuyka 3.0 versions. The estimated modification period was up to two weeks, with priority given to military personnel using the detector on the front line.

Users can request the upgrade through the BlueBird Tech mobile application or through company managers. The application checks the detector serial number and board version before an eligible unit is placed in the upgrade queue.

In August 2026, Chuyka 3.0 was also reported as available for civilian purchase in Ukraine. Kyiv Post described the detector as already used by Ukrainian defense forces and intended to provide warning of FPV and other compatible unmanned-aircraft video transmissions in frontline regions.

Design

Chuyka 3.0 is a portable radio reconnaissance device that scans for drone video transmissions rather than relying on optical detection. When a compatible analog video signal is detected, the system can issue audible and visual alerts and display the intercepted video. The operator can use the received image, channel and frequency information to assess the detected aircraft and its movement.

The detector can show information for up to three detected signal sources at the same time. An analog AV-out connection allows intercepted footage to be displayed on an external screen. The system also supports inverted video signals and frequency adjustment intended to improve image quality during playback.

The device uses standard SMA antenna connectors, allowing compatible antennas with different sensitivity characteristics to be attached. Its batteries can be replaced in the field without disassembling the detector. Defender Media described the housing as PLA plastic and the controls as deliberately simple.

Frequency coverage

The original publicly described 2025 configuration used three scanning bands: 900–1680 MHz, 3060–3700 MHz and 4990–6000 MHz. BlueBird Tech later introduced an upgrade that adds a fourth 6000–8800 MHz band and expands the 3.3 GHz-range section of the receiver to 2860–4500 MHz.

Operational history

Chuyka 3.0 was reported in 2025 as deployed with Ukrainian personnel on the front lines during the Russia-Ukraine war. Its principal role is early detection of FPV drones and other unmanned aircraft transmitting compatible video signals. Reports indicated that alerts can begin before the detector obtains a stable video image, giving the operator additional warning of an approaching transmitter.

BlueBird Tech stated in 2026 that frontline military users would receive priority in the Chuyka 3.0 upgrade program. Civilian availability was subsequently reported for people and organizations in Ukrainian regions exposed to FPV-drone threats.
