Admiral Kasatonov (431) History

Admiral Kasatonov is a modern frigate serving in the Russian Navy as part of the Admiral Gorshkov class, a newer class with six ships planned. Kasatonov, the second ship of this class, was commissioned in 2019 and operates in the Northern Fleet. These frigates are compact but equipped with advanced systems and various weapons, capable of operating independently or with larger fleets in different naval scenarios.

Kasatonov boasts advanced radar, sonar, and electronic warfare systems, along with a crew of 210. Its armament includes a 130 mm main gun, Vertical Launch Systems for missiles, close-range defense systems, heavy machine guns, and torpedo launchers. Additionally, it carries a naval helicopter for missions such as anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, and reconnaissance.

The design of Kasatonov emphasizes blending the hull with the superstructure for a sleek appearance and incorporates efficient power systems. Currently, the Gorshkov class includes two ships, with more under construction and expected to be commissioned by 2025, marking a significant enhancement to the Russian Navy's capabilities.
