History of CheyTac Intervention

The CheyTac Intervention is a sniper weapon system developed by the American company CheyTac Associates in Arco, Idaho. Classified as an "Anti-Material Rifle", the Intervention is designed to combat light or "soft" armored threats and other targets of interest at extreme ranges using a large-caliber cartridge developed in-house by CheyTac.

Anti-Material Rifles are widely used by armed forces around the world to allow snipers to target and disable key components of enemy vehicles, including sights, sensors, rail links, engine blocks, and more. The Intervention is sold as a complete weapon package, including rifle, case, optics, ammo supply, spare barrel and various accessories, and has an effective range of up to 2,000 meters, and is considered one of the most accurate long-range firing platforms in the world.

In ideal The intervention has demonstrated accuracy up to 2,200 meters under test conditions of 2,200 meters, including group fire (where the bullet repeatedly hits the same spot on the target). The intervention set a world record for the best grouping in distance (2,122 yards).

While many of today's anti-material rifles use the widely accepted .50 BMG cartridge, CheyTac developed its .408 for their intervention. All in all, Intervention is a rather conventionally designed sniper system. The main working internals are housed in the receiver, which contains both the firing action and the manual bolt action (turn bolt design). The lever hangs on the right side of the gun body. The front end assembly sits above the base of the barrel, which protrudes some distance from the actual gun body.

The barrel is also closed by an integrated muzzle brake and can accommodate a silencer. A Picatinny rail system sits on top of the receiver for mounting optics and accessories. An ergonomic carry handle is mounted on the front of the case under the front end. That . 408 ammunition is fed from a spring-loaded seven-round (production "Repeater" model only) detachable magazine that is deployed in front of the pistol grip and trigger assembly. The magazine itself is wide, with vertical grooves that insert just below the front of the receiver.

The ejection port is located on the right side of the gun body above the magazine feeder. The pistol grip features a rugged design that is ergonomically designed and conveniently tilts back with an enlarged base. The trigger is well protected by the low guard, as is the pistol grip at the rear and the magazine feed at the front. The shoulder rest is another ergonomically refined element, designed to be hollow and supported by two extension bars extending from the receiver side.

This allows the operator to fully adjust the stock extension as needed. A foldable bipod is adjustable and attached to the front assembly. An adjustable monopod can be seen at the bottom of the shoulder rest.

The intervention without optics weighs 31 pounds and has a barrel length of 53 inches when fully extended.

The intervention was facilitated by the use of high-efficiency stainless steel muzzle brakes - the MacArthur PGRS-1 series - to deal with the violent recoil inherent in this weapon. "Efficient" muzzle brakes allow the weapon to fire repeatedly without exhausting the operator, which can cause other systems to fatigue and potentially lead to inaccurate results in the long run. Gunsmith Bruce McArthur's unique muzzle brake design forces the generated gas away from the shooter's eye before the bullet actually leaves the muzzle brake itself.

As a "disassembled" rifle system, the Intervention can be broken down into smaller major components for storage (via sea or air) during transport or penetration. CheyTac claims their rifle system can maintain its "zero" tolerance, meaning that with the system completely disassembled, the rifle can be reassembled without losing its inherent accuracy.

Intervention has proven this feat in testing to consistently deliver bullets to the target regardless of the time of day or the position from the shooter to the target.

CheyTac sells its rifles with two different primary optical sighting systems. The default range model is Nightforce NXS 5. 5-22x variable range. The night vision version is SIM RAD. Custom optics can also be used.

In addition to conventional optics, the intervention unit can be fitted with other accessories, including silencers, infrared (IR) laser illumination systems, KESTREL 4000/4500 data processing systems (for accurate reading of wind, air temperature and pressure), Leica Vector IV laser rangefinder and environmental computer SUUNTO X6 won the operator's wrist.

The Intervention appears in a handful of variants, each with a different model number for the company name. The M-200 was a standard rifle design with a 29" barrel, a shortened carbine shape was also developed as it is now discontinued. The M-200 CIV is a well-known civilian market model. All M-200 series rifles operate on detachable magazines and feature the aforementioned adjustable telescoping shoulder rest. The M-310 family includes the M-310 SS and M-310 R to indicate their respective "single" and "burst" firing actions.

Both have a 29-inch barrel. The M-325 series includes the M-325 SS and M-325 R, which have the same firing action as the M-310 series, although they are equipped with 28-inch barrels. The 300 series rifles can be seen with McMillan fiberglass stocks.
