The French Navy is embracing the future with the advanced "Intervention Defense Frigates," part of the FTI class, compact yet equipped with cutting-edge technology and weaponry. These frigates, set to join the fleet in 2024, are marked by their stealth design and conventional power, offering a diverse array of capabilities for various missions. Greece has also secured three of these frigates to enhance its naval capabilities.
These vessels boast a streamlined profile for stealth, accompanied by a modular construction approach. With a length of around 400 feet, width of 58 feet, and a displacement of 4,460 tons, they pack substantial power with diesel engines, enabling a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles. The frigates house a crew of 110 and can stay operational for up to 45 days at sea.
Equipped with advanced radar, sonar systems, and a comprehensive weapons arsenal, including deck guns, automatic cannons, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, and torpedoes, these ships are versatile assets. Greece's acquisition of three of these frigates reflects a broader interest in Mediterranean stability. These vessels are poised to bolster naval power, building on the legacy of the Lafayette class, which has served multiple nations since its introduction in 1996.
