The JS 9mm (or simply "JS 9") is a Chinese conventional submachine gun designed for the export market, based on the Chinese Army's Bullpup 5.8mm QCW-05 company). As expected, the JS 9 borrows much of the form and function of the original weapon system, with some notable changes to accommodate a wider export-oriented approach - namely the acceptance of 9mm cartridges and the lack of an integrated carrying handle. The JS 9 is sold to security and law enforcement forces around the world, but has distinctive features specific to special forces applications: the use of suppressors and standard armor-piercing rounds. The JS 9 design was completed by Construction Industries and production began in 2006.
Products are exported under the banner of Northern Equipment Co., Ltd. Settled in Beijing. As of this writing, both QCW-05 and JS 9 are in full production, with the former just a year ahead of JS 9.
The JS 9 can be loaded with the locally designed and produced 9x19mm DAP92-9 armor-piercing round, but can also be loaded with the generic 9x19 Parabellum round. The JS 9 usually accepts a 20 or 30 round detachable magazine. The firing action is regular recoil from an open bolt, in line with other successful submachine gun designs. There is a fire selector for semi-automatic and full-automatic fire, while an anti-pinch is mounted on the rear of the pistol grip, which must be pressed in order for the weapon to fire.
The rate of fire is about 400 rounds per minute, and the muzzle velocity is 1,052 feet per second. Effective range up to 400 feet. The total weight of the gun is a manageable 4.4 lbs.
Silencers can be attached to the muzzle, while optics, night vision goggles, and laser sights can be attached to the top-mounted universal Picatinny rail system.
Externally, JS 9 mimics much of the original design form of the previous QCW-05. Like the original, the JS 9 is a bullpup configuration, which means the magazine and feeder are located behind the pistol grip and internal firing mechanism. The ejection port is set on the left side of the receiver, making the submachine gun more "unfriendly" to lefties. There is a short polymer stock to accommodate the magazine feed, the magazine itself is curved forward. The pistol grip is ergonomically shaped and integrated into an elongated trigger guard with a large curved trigger unit.
There is a short front end for ambidextrous use, and the barrel is fitted with a silencer to suppress work. The sight consists of a fixed forward sight with a rear mount to match the open sight assembly.
Removable into seven main sections, the JS 9 is lightweight and compact, making it ideal for military, police, security or special forces for excellent close-quarter work.
