History of McMillan TAC-416
The McMillan TAC-416 is the latest McMillan rifle to join the TAC line. It builds on the proven capabilities of the previous TAC-50 anti-material series, which used the . 50 BMG cartridge.
However, the TAC-416 is designed for the .416 Barrett cartridge, which is more than 1,000 yards longer than the .50 BMG. However, unlike the TAC-50, which uses a detachable magazine, the TAC-416 is limited to single-shot firing, and it does so with the same manually-operated bold action feature as the TAC-50.
The TAC-416 is primarily sold to military personnel.
The TAC-416 adopts a modified stock shape of the TAC-50 (A1) with an integrated adjustable cheek piece and a two-way adjustable recoil pad (optional) for maximum comfort. As usual, the stock is mounted behind an ergonomic freestanding pistol grip. The bolt action lever is conventionally located on the right side of the receiver. A large ejection port is also clearly visible on the right side.
The front end carries the necessary adjustable bipod assembly to aid in the forward assist of the weapon. The collection is available in different finishes, including black and sand. The free-floating, hand-milled barrel is a Lilja Match grade fluted assembly and is available in 29" navy or 30" light profile shapes - each with a threaded muzzle to accept McMillan muzzle brakes. Since the TAC-416 lacked basic aiming facilities, a short section of Picatinny rail was placed on top of the receiver and accommodated various optics. Night vision rail mounts can also be attached to drilled and tapped sight bases.
The trigger is adjustable and defaults to 3.5 lbs. The TAC-416 lacks the updated recoil reduction feature of the upgraded TAC-50 A1-R2 (R2 Recoil Relief System).
