Type 98 (PF-98)

History

The Type 98 (PF-98) is a 120mm unguided anti-tank missile system developed by China North Industries Corporation for the People's Liberation Army, and is the successor to the Type 65 and Type 78 recoilless guns. She is also known by her nickname "Queen Bee".

It can be equipped with a fire control system that predicts future target points based on calculations made before the missile fires.

The PLA began searching for a successor to the Type 78 in the 1990s. Older units from the 1950s are starting to show their age. The Type 98 was introduced to the Macau Garrison in 1999, and some elite units began to receive the weapon after 2000.

The design allows precise firing of 120mm multipurpose HE or anti-tank HE rounds with negligible recoil. The weapon can be fired from a tripod or from the shoulder.
