History of the Milkor MGL Y2
Milkor Pty Ltd, a South African company, is renowned for its 40mm grenade launchers, particularly the Multiple Grenade Launcher (MGL) series. The MGL Y2, developed in the early 1980s, is the flagship of this series and has been adopted by the South African Army and others for reliable performance in various challenging conditions. With an assault weapon-style design, it features a rotating magazine, similar to an Old West Colt firearm, and allows for optics to enhance its tactical capabilities.
The MGL Y2 is versatile, capable of firing both lethal and non-lethal 40mm grenades, making it attractive to non-military groups as well. Its compact design measures 30.6" in length, with an 11.8" barrel and an empty weight of 11.68 lbs. It operates semi-automatically with a six-shot cylinder, allowing for quick reloads. This launcher offers a muzzle velocity of 250 feet per second and a rate of fire of 90 rounds per minute. The MGL series began with the 1983 MGL Y2 and evolved into the 1996 MGL Mk 1.
