The long history of Italian gun maker Beretta dates back to 1526 - making it one of the oldest active gun manufacturers in the world. The company found success in semi-automatic pistols in the early 1900s before branching out into the submachine gun market.
Even today, the company is known for its craftsmanship and manages to keep up with the times by releasing models that fit the market. One of the newer automatic weapon creations is the Mx4 "Storm" submachine gun, which follows the Storm weapon family, which includes the civilian Cx4 carbine (based on the militarized Mx4) and the semi-automatic Px4 pistol.
The Mx4 is a no-frills, modern automatic weapon with direct recoil action, usually chambered in a German 9x19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge (another model chambered in .45 ACP). Feeding is via a detachable 30-round magazine (or pistol magazine, if desired) and aiming is via a two-position aperture sight assembly. It has an effective range of up to 200 meters and a muzzle velocity of 1,280 feet per second. Its exterior design encourages refined, elegant lines while still maintaining a functional, compact shape that feels good in the hand.
The Picatinny rail section adds tactical value to the weapon and is a staple of modern firearms, allowing operators to customize their system with different optics, sights, grips, bipods, etc. to meet mission requirements. The trigger group is surrounded by a thick ring, the stock is integrated into the plastic body of the weapon, and there is a groove behind the pistol grip area.
The total weight reaches 2.5kg, the length is 647mm and the barrel length is 312mm.
To date (2015), the governments of India (Border Patrol), Italy (Navy), Libya, Portugal and Venezuela (National Guard) have ordered the Mx4. In practice, the weapon has earned the trust of government forces around the world for its accuracy, compactness and reliability a feat considering the number of submachine gun options available to each customer.
