History

Eoptic DeepScan is a family of compact, modular multispectral and multimodal imaging payloads developed for space missions. Eoptic introduced DeepScan in April 2026 as its first dedicated imaging payload for responsive space applications.

The system was developed in collaboration with Teledyne Space and combines space-qualified imaging hardware, optics, and onboard processing. DeepScan is intended for space domain awareness, Earth observation, and missile tracking and warning configurations.

In August 2026, Eoptic announced that it had been selected as an approved supplier of DeepScan payloads for strategic space imaging initiatives. Multiple payloads were scheduled for delivery in early 2027 and launch during the following months, while production was planned to increase in 2028.

Development

Eoptic Space Systems announced DeepScan on April 14, 2026, during the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs. The company stated that the payload had been developed with Teledyne Space, combining Eoptic's imaging architecture with Teledyne's space-qualified sensor technology. DeepScan technology was also being displayed and discussed at the symposium.

The payload uses the Teledyne CIS120 space-grade CMOS imager. Eoptic stated that this sensor allows operation across ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared spectral bands and supports imaging of faint or distant objects in low-light conditions. The broader payload architecture also supports short-wave infrared imaging.

Eoptic described the payload as a U.S.-manufactured system intended to provide real-time detection, tracking, analysis, and characterization of resident space objects. The company stated that captured imagery can be used to assess signatures, surface characteristics, orientation, size, shape, materials, temperature, fuel types, and engine exhaust plumes. These are manufacturer-described capabilities rather than published independent performance results.

On August 18, 2026, Eoptic announced through SpaceNews that it had been selected as an approved supplier supporting strategic space imaging initiatives. The first announced program milestone called for multiple DeepScan payloads to be delivered in early 2027 and launched in the following months.

Design

DeepScan uses a compact and modular architecture that integrates the camera, optical system, and onboard processing into a single payload. Eoptic describes the family as configurable for spacecraft ranging from CubeSat platforms to ESPA-class spacecraft.

Imaging system

The imaging system is multispectral and multimodal. Eoptic identifies ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, and short-wave infrared as supported spectral regions. The Teledyne CIS120 space-grade CMOS imager is specifically identified as a central imaging component for ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared operation.

Eoptic also states that DeepScan incorporates a monolithic telescope developed by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and uses space-qualified components intended to reduce technical risk. No dimensions, aperture, focal length, detector resolution, field of view, mass, or electrical power figures were provided in the available material.

Onboard processing

The payload includes onboard processing intended to turn captured imagery into information usable during space domain awareness missions. Eoptic describes this processing as supporting rapid detection, tracking, and characterization of resident space objects rather than requiring all image interpretation to occur after data is returned to the ground.

Mission configurations

DeepScan is described as a family rather than a single fixed configuration. Eoptic states that payload configurations can be tailored for space domain awareness, high-resolution Earth observation, and missile tracking and warning. The available sources do not identify separate model designations or publish specifications for these individual configurations.

Program status

As of August 2026, DeepScan had been publicly introduced and Eoptic had been selected as an approved supplier for upcoming space missions. Multiple payload deliveries were planned for early 2027, followed by launches during 2027. Eoptic also stated that DeepScan production was planned to ramp up in 2028.

The available material does not identify the spacecraft operators, launch providers, orbital destinations, payload quantities, contract value, or exact launch dates. It therefore does not establish operational service in orbit as of the 2026 announcements.
